Paddle Florida staff attends
Paddle Georgia
Paddle Florida staff joined 350 of our closest friends to participate in the 6th annual Paddle Georgia, a project of the Georgia River Network. Held on the Broad and Savannah Rivers June 19-25, this adventure was one for the books. With heat indexes over 100 degrees every day, the challenge was to complete each day without succumbing to the stifling heat. Camping with our Georgia paddling friends, Connie & Tommy Hollis and Ralph Bartow, we had two days where Class II rapids were featured and the other days had many surprises in store. The staff from the Georgia River Network did an outstanding job again, as Paddle Georgia remains the gold standard for these kinds of trips. Kudos to Joe Cook, April Ingle, Dana Skelton, Jesslyn Shields, Ben Emanuel, Bonny Putney, Dee Stone, Tara Muenz, Allison Hughes, Katherine Edmonds and crew for an outstanding adventure. Paddle Georgia, we salute you!

Announcement on Ochlockonee trip coming soon
After several delays we are almost ready to announce our panhandle trip on the Ochlockonee River, just west of Tallahassee. Tentatively scheduled for March 12-18, 2011, this is the fifth trip out of six slated for 2010/2011. Looks like 80 miles in six days. We are working with the Office of Greenways and Trails, the Apalachicola National Forest, Tate's Hell State Forest and the Florida Park Service in order to make this event a great success. Please visit www.paddleflorida.org for updates.
Current Problems organizing Great Suwannee River Cleanup(again)
Current Problems has been asked by the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail Working Group and the Suwannee River Water Management District to coordinate a cleanup of the of the Suwannee River from the Georgia line to the Gulf of Mexico. They hope that you will want to be one of those involved in this first ever full length cleanup and celebration of the Suwannee within our state.
The cleanup will consist of many, many small cleanups all along the river during a three month window from September through November. A record will be kept of the cleanup's achievements, and the totals will eventually be included in the International Coastal Cleanup (Ocean Conservancy) and the National River Cleanup (American River)s totals as well. For more information, please contact Fritzi Olson at aar@currentproblems.org
