2024-2025 SEASON UPDATE

For the 1st time in 17 years Paddle Florida has moved its Suwannee River Wilderness Trail trip to April and canceled our Santa Fe Springs Celebration. This is a result of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton and the resulting damage to those waterways.

The Suwannee River Water Management District (District) and its partners have worked to develop and implement specific projects to support these strategies and improve the priority waterbodies. This SWIM Plan culminates in a list and estimated costs of active, planned, and proposed restoration projects to be implemented by the District and/or its partners.

The Suwannee River originates in the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia, flows through eight counties in north-central Florida, and discharges to the Gulf of Mexico. Approximately 246 miles in length from its source to the sea, the Suwannee River is the second largest river in Florida. The Suwannee River basin covers approximately 9,950 square miles, of which approximately 5,700 square miles lie within Georgia and 4,250 square miles lie within Florida. [Read more…]
